9-1-1 Emergency Calls
Utilizing Wireless Phones

Last year, New Jersey residents placed over two million emergency calls to 9-1-1 using wireless phones. However, wireless phones don't automatically provide 9-1-1 operators with all of the necessary information.

When calling 9-1-1 for assistance using a wireless phone, wireless users must give the operator the following information:

  • The exact location of the emergency,
  • Type of emergency,
  • Who is involved in the emergency, and
  • A phone number where they can be reached.

If driving, please pull over to a safe place and then make the call.

By following the above instructions, 9-1-1 operators can better respond to roadside emergencies and life-threatening accidents.
