National Breast Cancer Awareness Month promotes early detection, prevention and treatment. Early detection raises your chances of defeating breast cancer. Women should perform a monthly breast
self-exam and those age 40 and over should have an annual mammogram.
Breast cancer patients have many treatment options. There are resources for dealing with stress, fear, pain, anxiety and medical expenses.
Age, gender and personal and family history are uncontrollable risk factors. The causes of breast cancer have not been fully defined, but there are factors you can control:
- Maintain a healthy weight.
- Exercise often.
- Do not use tobacco.
- Avoid alcohol.
The possibility of breast cancer exists for everyone, even men. For more information on prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer, visit the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month Web site,
www.NBCAM.com..
