iScribe

The iScribe electronic prescribing tools provide physicians and their office staff with critical prescribing information via a suite of PDA and Web-based tools. These tools allow physicians to write prescriptions that are checked for formulary compliance and potential drug-to-drug interactions, send them directly to a mail service or retail pharmacy or print them in the office for their patients.

As of September 1, 2005, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey network physicians filled the 700 spaces available for subsidization through the E-Prescribe program. However, iScribe electronic prescribing is still available to interested users: the PDA tools are available by annual subscription and Web-based electronic prescribing is available at no cost.
