The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey commenced operation on January 1, 2004, with a $10 million grant from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey to fund programs for a number of years. The Foundation's priorities include supporting health and the arts.

The Foundation's creation coincided with the celebration of the company's 70th year of providing health care services and coverage to New Jerseyans. Horizon BCBSNJ marked the milestone with a company-wide celebration in October 2003.

"We have long believed it is important for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, as the state's oldest and largest health insurer, to give back to the community and to share our success as a company with the people who have been our customers and neighbors all these years," said William J. Marino, president and CEO of Horizon BCBSNJ.
