HEALTH

All About Hope in Voorhees received a grant of $30,000 to support its Taking Charge Program, a group intervention program for HIV positive men and women. The program provides basic health information and services.

American Conference on Diversity in New Brunswick received a grant of $20,000 to support The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey Healthcare Cultural Competency Train the Trainer Program. The program addresses health disparities by training health care professionals to be culturally and linguistically competent in their care giving.

American Diabetes Association in Bridgewater received a grant of $25,000 to support its Project Power Program, a diabetes educational outreach and awareness program for the African-American and Latino communities. Through Diabetes Days held in partnership with faith-based organizations and health fairs, participants learn how to keep healthy by managing or preventing diabetes.

American Heart Association Inc. in Robbinsville received a grant of $25,000 to support its Health Disparities in Heart Health/Closing the Gap Through Community Education Program. The cardiovascular education and outreach program for African Americans and women includes Search Your Heart, The Power to End Stroke, Go Red for Women and CPR Anytime Training and reaches over 200,000 people.

The ARC of New Jersey Inc. in North Brunswick received a grant of $27,000 to support its HealthHelp for New Jersey Families Project. Through distribution of a HealthHelp resource card to 1,400 pediatricians' offices statewide, families of children diagnosed with a developmental disability will receive health and support services information.

Camden Eye Center in Camden received a grant of $10,000 to support its Sight First for Kids Program that provides free and low-cost eye care examinations, screenings, and treatment for children up to the age of 18.

Cancer Care Inc. in Ridgewood received a grant of $20,000 to support its Early Detection Initiative for Latina Women. The program provides underserved women in Essex County with training on the benefits of early detection and screening for breast and cervical cancers.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark in Newark received a grant of $25,000 to support its St. Bridget's Clinical Case Management Program. This intensive outreach program provides comprehensive case management treatment services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS.

Cerebral Palsy Association of Middlesex County in Edison received a grant of $15,000 to support its Augmentative Communication Equipment Lending Program. The program enables non-verbal children with developmental and related disabilities to communicate using specialized, adaptive equipment.

ChoiceOne Pregnancy & Sexual Health Resource Centers Inc. in Lawrenceville received a grant of $20,000 to support its Straight Talk Program that educates middle and high school students on the transmission and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

Diabetes Foundation in Ridgewood received a grant of $10,000 to support its Physicians Seminar by providing 400 internists and family practitioners training and research on Type 2 Diabetes to address a statewide shortage of endocrinologists.

Emmanuel Cancer Foundation Inc. in Scotch Plains received a grant of $10,000 to support its Family Services Program. The program provides counseling services to families who have a child diagnosed with cancer.

Eva's Kitchen & Sheltering Program Inc. in Paterson received a grant of $33,000 for the purchase of a digital panoramic X-ray machine to improve dental care services to more than 4,000 uninsured patients served each year at Eva's Primary Care Clinic.

Family & Community Services of Somerset County in Bound Brook received a grant of $12,000 to provide mental health counseling for 75 individuals receiving treatment in its Depression Program.

Family Guidance Center Corporation in Princeton received a grant of $15,000 to support its Adolescent Therapy Group Program. The program offers discussion and group counseling on depression, anxiety, substance abuse and family problems.

Fan4Kids, a New Jersey nonprofit corporation in Hoboken, received a grant of $20,000 for program expansion into four Newark schools. Fan4Kids, developed in consultation with the Center for Obesity Research and Intervention at Rutgers University, educates children about fitness and nutrition through classroom instruction, parental reinforcement and community activities.

First Choice Women's Resource Centers in Morristown received a grant of $10,000 to support its Straight Talk HIV and STD Prevention Program. The program is presented to over 6,000 students in 30 public schools in Northern New Jersey.

Greater Newark Conservancy Inc. in Newark received a grant of $15,000 to support its Environmental Health Literacy Program. The program teaches Newark and surrounding urban community school children how fruits and vegetables are grown and how healthy food choices are made by reading and understanding food labels.

Health Research & Educational Trust of New Jersey in Princeton received a grant of $20,000 to support its Project Dulce New Jersey Program. The comprehensive disease management program was developed to improve the care and health outcomes for New Jersey residents that have diabetes.

Helen Keller International Inc. in Newark received a grant of $10,000 to support its ChildSight Program providing free screenings and prescription eyeglasses to underserved public school children.

Hope House in Dover received a grant of $25,000 to support the HIV/AIDS Latino Outreach & Education Initiative. Expanded outreach, screening and counseling services will be provided to underserved Latino communities in Morris County via a mobile van unit.

Inwood House in Buena received a grant of $20,000 to support its Atlantic County Teen Choice Program. The teen pregnancy and disease prevention outreach program serves Atlantic County school students ages 13-19.

Jewish Vocational Service of Metro West in East Orange received a grant of $10,000 to support its Coordinated Health Services Program. The program provides seminars on nutrition and exercise, health screenings, and individualized health plans for the most frail and elderly individuals with disabilities attending the Joseph L. Weinberg Rehabilitation Center.

Kids Corporation in Newark received a grant of $10,000 to support its Mountain Classroom Program, a two-day intensive environmental science and leadership training program for 1,600 fifth grade Newark public school students.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Inc. in Westmont received a grant of $20,000 to support its Trish Greene Back to School Program. The program helps children with cancer transition back to school during and after treatment. It provides education and encourages increasing communication among parents, schools and health professionals.

Literacy Today Inc. in Moorestown received a grant of $10,000 to support the health literacy program at Woodrow Wilson High School and Cramer Elementary School in Camden. The after-school program hires teen mentors and focuses on health related reading materials to improve reading skills of young children.

Literacy Volunteers of New Jersey Inc. in Bridgewater received a grant of $9,000 to improve the health literacy skills of adults by incorporating health-related topics into its volunteers training curriculum.

March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation New Jersey Chapter in Cranbury received a grant of $15,000 to support its statewide Prematurity campaign. The campaign educates the public about the problems of premature birth, and assists health care professionals in identifying and treating women at high risk for premature birth.

Marylawn of the Oranges in South Orange received a grant of $15,000 to support an interactive weight management program that teaches young women strategies to combat obesity through weight training, exercise, nutrition and behavioral change.

Medical Missions For Children Inc. in Paterson received a grant of $10,000 to support its Giggles Children's Theatre. The program brings live performances to hospitalized children and their families and focuses on the healing qualities of laughter.

Montclair State University Foundation Inc. in Montclair received a grant of $10,000 to support the extension of its HIV Prevention Program with an advanced graduate-level course on HIV Prevention Education in Grades K-8.

Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell received a grant of $10,000 to support its Fitness-Wellness Program. The program educates young women on healthy living choices with emphasis on nutrition, commitment to daily caloric intake management and weight training.

New Eyes For The Needy Inc. in Short Hills received a grant of $10,000 to support its voucher program providing new prescription eyeglasses to underserved adults and children residing in southern New Jersey, particularly in Atlantic and Camden counties.

New Jersey AIDS Partnership in Lawrenceville received a grant of $20,000 to support its HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Initiative providing services to high-risk underserved populations throughout the state.

New Jersey Foundation of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities in Edison received a grant of $50,000 to support its Donated Dental Services Program. The program provides comprehensive dental care for approximately 450 aged or disabled individuals unable to afford treatment and ineligible for public aid.

New Jersey Institute of Technology Foundation in Newark received a grant of $15,000 to support its Developing Good Habits for Healthy Living Program. The program teaches students in grades 7 through 12 about the negative health implications of obesity. The program also provides education on nutrition, fitness and healthy lifestyles.

New Jersey Network Foundation (NJN) in Trenton, New Jersey's only statewide broadcast network, received a grant of $75,000 to support its unique programming and services to over 50,000 New Jersey viewers. Programs include the NJN News HealthWatch report, NJN News's nightly issues, and public affairs specials.

New Jersey YMCA State Alliance Inc. in Summit received a multi-year grant of $1,000,000. There will be a separate announcement regarding the details of this grant.

Newark Boys Chorus School in Newark, a private school for young men, received a grant of $20,000 to support its Life Styles of the Healthy and Wise Project III. The project focuses on prevention of health conditions such as childhood obesity, heart disease, and type II diabetes and teaches students about nutrition and exercise.

Newark Youth Golf Inc. in Newark received a grant of $10,000 to support its after school Health and Academic Ennrichment Program that introduces students to the game of golf. The program also provides homework assistance, tutoring and literacy lessons.

Ocean Community Economic Action Now Inc. in Toms River received a grant of $55,000 to support its Project Healthy Smiles Dental Initiative. The initiative provides dental screenings and treatment for 420 uninsured children ages 2-5 in Ocean County.

Open Door Pregnancy Center in Toms River received a grant of $15,000 to support its My Life, My Choices Program, an HIV and STD prevention program serving 10,000 teens in Ocean County.

Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey in Hoboken received a grant of $15,000 to support its 2007 Fifth Grade Parent Alert initiative. The initiative educates parents of fifth graders about the dangers of substance abuse and how to talk with their children about the dangers of drug use.

Plainfield Neighborhood Health Services in Plainfield, a Foundation Health Center Initiative grantee, received a grant of $48,000 to upgrade its Information Technology infrastructure through the purchase and installation of new hardware and a storage server.

Prevention Education Inc. in Lawrenceville received a grant of $15,000 to support its Trauma, Loss and Depression Program. The early intervention program identifies and treats mental health problems early in young children to prevent future onset of depression. About 50 children and parents will receive counseling services.

Princeton Center for Leadership Training in Princeton received a grant of $20,000 to support its New Jersey Teen Prevention Education Program (Teen PEP), a school-based peer education and prevention program to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and high risk sexual behaviors among teens in three Camden City high schools and four high schools in Newark.

Providence Medical Clinic Inc. in Neptune City, a Foundation Health Center Initiative grantee, received a grant of $50,000 to support services provided by part-time physicians including expanding the Clinic's access and hours of operation to serve more patients. The Clinic plans to increase the number of patients treated by its free program by 15% - 20% annually.

St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark received a grant of $25,000 to support its Counseling Program. The program teaches life skills enabling students to address difficult issues such as anxiety, depression, and anger management in individual and group counseling sessions.

St. Philip's Academy Newark Inc. in Newark received a grant of $10,000 to support its Health, Nutrition and Wellness Program. The program provides weight, nutrition and fitness education to over 350 elementary and middle school children in Newark and surrounding communities.

St. Vincent Academy in Newark received a grant of $24,000 to support its Women's Wellness Plus Program to address significant weight and health related problems among its student population.

Solutions Pregnancy & Health Center in Shrewsbury received a grant of $5,000 to support its Straight Talk program providing teens in Monmouth County with information on pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease prevention.

Somerset Home for Temporarily Displaced Children in Bridgewater received a grant of $15,000 to support its Brahma House Street Smart HIV/AIDS Prevention Program for runaway and homeless youth whose behaviors place them at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.

South Jersey AIDS Alliance in Atlantic City received a grant of $15,000 to support its Healthy Relationships Plus program, a small group intervention program for HIV positive men and women. The program promotes the adoption of safer sexual behaviors and helps adults develop skills to reduce stress when disclosing HIV status to family and friends and to needle sharing partners.

Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey in Jersey City received a grant of $100,000 to support its Su Salud Primero/Your Health First! Latino health documentary. The comprehensive health and wellness initiative for underserved Latino adults includes a documentary, an interactive bi-lingual medical resource Web page hosted on New Jersey Network's website and an online, health education brochure to encourage prevention and early detection of health conditions.

Union Industrial Home for Children in Trenton received a grant of $15,000 to support its pilot Community of Fathers Program. The program addresses situational depression in unemployed or underemployed fathers.

United Way of Essex and West Hudson in Newark received a grant of $75,000 to support its Success by 6 Initiative that seeks to raise awareness about early childhood development as well as to improve access to critical health and human services. Five thousand children in Essex County will be served.

Urban Educational Project-Jersey Explorer Children's Museum in East Orange received a grant of $15,000 to support its Healthy Kids For A Healthy Life Initiative. The obesity awareness program integrates information into select museum exhibits on the importance of diet, nutrition and exercise to help children develop a healthy lifestyle.

The Valerie Fund Inc. in Maplewood received a grant of $15,000 to support its Camp Happy Times programs for cancer patients and cancer survivors. The program includes the leaders-in-training-program for young adults to learn how to be confident and develop decision making and leadership skills and the Fun Fair Carnival for campers.

West Bergen Mental Healthcare Inc., a community-based mental health center in Ridgewood, received a grant of $20,000 to support the Children's Depression Intervention Program. The program screens and treats depression and mood disorders in children and adolescents.

Women Helping Women in Metuchen received a grant of $10,000 to support its Depression Treatment Program providing women in Central New Jersey with community educational workshops, access to Web site information and a Help-Line to identify the signs of depression and how to access resources.

Women's Heart Foundation in Trenton received a grant of $15,000 to support its Teen Esteem Program, a school-based gym alternative program designed to increase self-esteem through a customized exercise, nutrition and wellness curriculum. The program will serve 160 young women at Trenton High School.

Youth Development Clinic (YDC) in Newark received a grant of $25,000 to support its Behavioral Health Interventions Program which screens and treats children ages three through eight for depression.

Algonquin Arts in Manasquan received a grant of $10,000 to support its StageOne Intergenerational Music Education Program created to enrich the lives of both senior citizens and young students as they learn about and appreciate music.

The Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art in Newark, received a grant of $15,000 to support its Culture Creators Program, that introduces Newark Public High School students to the role of curator in museums and galleries.

American Repertory Ballet in New Brunswick received a grant of $10,000 to support its DANCE POWER Program as well as Education and Outreach programming for New Jersey public school students.

Appel Farm Arts and Music Center in Elmer received a grant of $15,000 to support its Artists-in-the-Schools Residency Program for ninth and tenth grade students at Vineland High School and for fifth and sixth grade students at Leap Academy Charter School in Camden.

Arts Council of Princeton in Princeton received a grant of $10,000 to support its Art Reach Program that provides arts education to underserved children in Princeton.

Children's Aid and Family Services in Paramus received a grant of $10,000 to support its Life Arts Program that promotes healing for severely abused and abandoned children through music, dance and fine arts.

City Without Walls in Newark received a general operating grant of $15,000 to support new technology-based art and training, as well as arts-based community development into City Without Walls core branding.

The Community Theatre in Morristown received a grant of $10,000 to support the expansion of its Arts Education and Outreach Programming to nearly 40,000 students.

The Discovery Orchestra in Warren received a grant of $10,000 to support its Discovery Concert Series offering listeners instruction on understanding musical details in short pieces as they experience the music live in concert.

Friends of The New Jersey State Museum in Trenton received a grant of $50,000 to support its Culture in Context Initiative, a multifaceted project focusing on the state's diverse folk culture and the role of traditional arts and artists in New Jersey communities.

The Haddonfield Symphony in Haddonfield received a grant of $20,000 to support its multi-disciplinary educational programs. The programs include a summer program at Rutgers University in Camden for student musicians from the City of Camden and an internship program for developing the careers of 78 gifted young musicians.

Jersey City Museum in Jersey City received a grant of $10,000 to support its Arts Education programs year round to children in grades pre-K through 12. More than 250 workshop sessions are planned for 11,000 children annually.

Jewish Community Center on the Palisades in Tenafly received a grant of $10,000 to support The Thurnauer School of Music Discovery Partnership Program with Englewood Public Schools providing students with an after school program on music fundamentals, a scholarship program of private lesson instruction and a string quartet residency music appreciation program.

Joseph P. Hayes Theatre Inc. in Beach Haven received a grant of $10,000 to support its touring educational theatre troupe, Surflight To-Go. The program, brought to schools in southern and central New Jersey, introduces the performing arts to school children.

Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District Inc., a non-profit, arts and cultural development corporation in Newark, received a grant of $10,000 to support its Family Music Festival. The festival, held in the City of Newark on consecutive Sundays in June, celebrates cultural diversity and African-American music.

Little Kids Rock Inc. in Montclair received a grant of $20,000 to support its New Jersey Expansion Initiative. The initiative supports teacher-training workshops, provides musical instruments for students and supports classroom visits by teaching artists. Approximately 2,000 students in Newark, Irvington, Orange and Trenton will be served.

McCarter Theatre in Princeton received a grant of $15,000 to support its arts education programming to more than 30,000 public school students in financially underserved districts.

Monmouth County Arts Council Inc. in Red Bank received a grant of $10,000 to support its Monmouth County Teen Arts Festival. The festival provides young artists a venue to exhibit their work. The artists then receive critiques from professional artists, while attending workshops to develop confidence and strengthen artistic skills.

Montclair Art Museum in Montclair received a grant of $25,000 to support its Free Family Days at the Museum Program. The program provides free admission for families four times a year.

Morris Museum in Morristown received a grant of $7,500 to support its Model Morris Museum Program. The program enables underserved students from Newark and Dover to experience Musical Machines and Living Dolls from the internationally renowned Murtogh D. Guinness Collection.

New Jersey Ballet Company Inc. in Livingston received a grant of $5,000 for general operating support. The grant will allow the professional dance company to maintain its level of artistic service to state residents.

New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in Newark, the state's largest performing arts organization, received a $500,000 grant for general operating support.

New Jersey Theatre Alliance (NJTA) in Morristown received a grant of $7,500 to support its Theatre and Access for All Program to NJTA member theatres to develop programs making performances more accessible for 3,000 children and adults with disabilities.

Newark Arts Council in Newark received a grant of $15,000 to support expansion and community outreach of its ArtStart Program in schools and neighborhoods in Newark.

The Newark Museum in Newark received a grant of $200,000 to support its 100th Anniversary Signature Capital Project Campaign.

Newark School of the Arts in Newark received a grant of $10,000 to support its Music Program offering students in Newark and surrounding urban communities classes in music theory, voice lessons and music instruction on more than 20 instruments.

The Noyes Museum of Art, a New Jersey nonprofit corporation in Oceanville, received a grant of $15,000 to support its Outreach Art Education Programs and Exhibitions that serve over 170,000 children, adults and seniors in New Jersey.

Perkins Center for the Arts in Moorestown received a grant of $10,000 to support its Arts Reaching The Students /Literacy Program. With a focus on three Abbott School districts located in Camden, Pemberton and Gloucester counties, it is expected that more than 15,000 South Jersey students will receive training from professional artists.

Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, Inc. in Madison received a grant of $10,000 to support its Urban Writers Project providing creative writing residencies in playwriting, poetry and prose for public school students in Newark, Camden and Elizabeth.

Ritz Theatre Company in Oaklyn received a grant of $10,000 to support the Ritz Theatre and Bancroft MET Opera Program. The program introduces Bancroft Neuro Health students, with developmental disabilities, to the activities and challenges of producing an opera, including writing, scoring and performing.

The Roxey Ballet in Lambertville received a grant of $10,000 to support its Arts in Education Initiative providing students with artistic dance training in African, Caribbean and other forms of dance.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison received a grant of $10,000 to support its "Shakespeare LIVE!" program. In 2007 over 40,000 students will view productions of abridged versions of Shakespeare's plays and other classic works presented at schools throughout the state.

State Theatre Regional Arts Center at New Brunswick received a grant of $15,000 to support its Professional Development Workshops for Teachers that integrate the arts into the classroom curriculum.

Two River Theatre Company in Red Bank received a grant of $10,000 to support The Heroes Project, an eight-week artist-in-residence educational program that enables students to create an original performance piece based on and inspired by their heroes.

WBGO in Newark received a grant of $10,000 to support its Children's Jazz Education series for school-aged children in Newark and surrounding communities.

Wheaton Arts in Millville received a grant of $20,000 to support its Glasstown Collective Education Program, introducing Southern New Jersey schoolchildren to studio workshops in glassmaking, pottery, and glassblowing. The program also serves teen offenders.
