Who is eligible to enroll?
To be eligible, you must be entitled to Medicare benefits under Part A or enrolled in Part B and live in New Jersey. You can only be enrolled in one Medicare-approved Part D prescription drug plan.

Is my enrollment in this plan based on my health history?
No. You will not have to answer any health questions to enroll in this plan.

Do all companies that offer this plan include the same pharmacies?
No. That is why it's important to compare plans carefully. Ninety-eight percent of New Jersey's pharmacies participate in Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey's network.

Do all companies that offer this plan cover the same drugs?
No. Again, compare each plan carefully. Obviously, the more drugs that are covered, the more likely you are to find the ones you need.

With my current health care plan, there's a limit to how much I can spend on drugs each year and still be covered. Is that also true with this plan?
No. Medicare prescription drug coverage features no monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual maximum. This means that no matter how much your prescription needs increase, you can be confident that your coverage will never run out.

Can I enroll for this coverage even if I have drug benefits with my health insurance plan from a previous employer?
Yes. However, if your current drug coverage is of equal or greater value than the standard Medicare-approved prescription drug coverage, you may want to keep that coverage and wait to enroll in a Medicare-approved prescription drug plan. (The organization offering your current coverage, such as your former employer or union or the insurance company they have hired, is required to tell you whether your current coverage is comparable.) If you later decide to join a Medicare-approved prescription drug plan, then you will not be subject to the late enrollment penalty only if your previous coverage was considered comparable.

I have a Medigap plan that provides some prescription benefits. What should I do?
If you have Medigap policy H, I or J with drug coverage, you can sign up for Medicare-approved prescription drug coverage from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, and the prescription drug benefits of your Medigap plan will be removed. Your Medigap premium would then be adjusted. Depending on which Medicare-approved prescription drug option you choose, you could see a significant reduction in your overall insurance premiums. You can also stay with your current coverage if you prefer.

IMPORTANT: The Medicare-approved prescription drug coverage is not automatic. You must enroll!
