Did you know that nearly 30,000 cases of acute infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) occur annually?  Between 15 to 40 percent of people who get the disease are able to fight off the virus during the early or acute stage, which is usually within the first six months of contracting hepatitis C.* 

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey empowers you by helping you understand how to better manage your hepatitis C and combating this virus through the Hepatitis C Health Education Program. This program is for eligible members age 18 and older who are diagnosed with hepatitis C.  This no-cost program invites you to take advantage of its valuable resources, including: 

• Toll-free support line staffed by registered nurses specializing in hepatitis C care.
• Quarterly educational mailings about hepatitis C.
• Personal dietician to review your individual nutritional needs.
• Information about innovations in treatment and nationally recognized guidelines to help you manage your hepatitis C.
• Valuable resource information – including community programs, support groups and web-based educational resources.

The goal of the program is to help you reach your optimal health care goals and adhere to the treatment plan established by your physician.
