Our network hospitals are all high-quality facilities, and some have been recognized based on performance measures. With 69 hospitals in New Jersey and seven hospitals in Pennsylvania and Delaware, the Horizon BCBSNJ Hospital Network gives you many high-quality facilities from which to choose.

People sometimes pick a facility based on convenience — the closer it is, the better. But, depending on specific health care needs, there are many other factors that you should consider.

Horizon BCBSNJ’s Regional Programs of Quality (RPQ) initiative can help you make informed choices when scheduling hospital services. You’ll find easy-to-understand information on quality and performance measures to help you choose the hospital that best fits your specific health care needs.

How the RPQ initiative works:

1. Horizon BCBSNJ has compiled informationfrom well-recognized, independent quality sources.

2. Summarized information is in an easy-to-understand format.This information is based on specific criteria established by external, independent review agencies that are reported in publicly available data.

3. Volume of the recognized service is one of the measures used. Some hospitals have not met the minimum volume criteria to be recognized forthe RPQ initiative. This is not intended to imply that services provided by the hospital are of different quality than those with the RPQ designation.

4. Physicians related to selected RPQ facilities must participate with Horizon BCBSNJ to ensure that there are no hidden costs when a member makes their decision on where to seek care. Therefore, programs with nonparticipating physicians were not designated as a Horizon BCBSNJ RPQ.

5. This information helps you and your physicians make health care decisions. RPQ encourages you to work with referring physicians and consider hospitals that have demonstrated effectiveness in measurableperformance standards.
