NEWS ALERT: Electronic referral requirement
Beginning August 1, 2009, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey will no longer accept paper referral forms.
Participating Primary Care Physicians (PCPs) may create initial referrals through our Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system or Online Services. Participating specialists may create refer-on referrals through our IVR system.
Please note the following:
· Referrals are not valid for out-of-network services.
· Referrals are not required for services being sent to a Lab Corp Patient Service Center. A Lab Corp requisition form is required.
Creating referrals electronically is fast and easy, environmentally friendly and establishes a record that is available to the PCP, the specialist or facility, your patient and us.

· Click Online Services.
· Under Additional Tools, click Online Services Demo.
Review some best practice hints for creating referrals through the IVR.

· Enter your User ID and Password in the Provider Sign On box and click Sign On.
· Click Provider Reference Materials.
· Click IVR News and Updates.
· Click IVR Referral Submission Helpful Hints.
