Fighting Cancer, Raising Health Awareness and Celebrating Volunteerism
HORIZON BCBSNJ BLIMP BEGINS ITS TWELFTH YEAR OF TOURING NEW JERSEY

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) announced today it has launched its twelfth annual Blimp Tour over New Jersey. The 2009 Horizon Cares Blimp Tour will celebrate volunteerism, raise health awareness and support community initiatives as it floats overhead from June 1 – September 13.Over 75 blimp rides have been donated to New Jersey based non-profit organizations to support their fundraising efforts. Recipients of donated blimp rides in 2009, include the New Jersey Historical Society, Operation Smile, Chilton Memorial Hospital, the Children’s Tumor Foundation and many more organizations. Horizon BCBSNJ has also donated a “belly banner” to the American Cancer Society (ACS) to promote their “More Birthdays” campaign. With the donation, the American Cancer Society will receive free advertising space and unlimited exposure on the belly or bottom front half of the Horizon blimp. The blimp averages over 100 million impressions every summer. The “More Birthdays” campaign seeks to help people get well, stay well, and fight back against cancer – because a world with less cancer is a world with more birthdays. This year’s tour name, HorizonCares, speaks to the company’s commitment to the people of New Jersey and is taken from Horizon BCBSNJ’s internal program that promotes employee volunteerism. In 2007, 576 employees logged over 3,500 hours of volunteer time through the program.
