As of Sunday at 12:01 a.m., August 16, 2009, Fuld Campus will not be in Horizon BCBSNJ’s hospital network for any of its 3.6 million members. 

This action will affect less than 3,500 members – of the more than 678,000 SHBP and SEHBP Horizon BCBSNJ members – who have recently used Fuld Campus.  Those individuals who have used the Fuld Campus will still have access to Capital Health’s Mercer Campus, just 1.9 miles away, until January 15, 2010.  After that date, unless an agreement is reached, the Mercer Campus will also leave the Horizon BCBSNJ hospital network.

“Capital Health chose not to negotiate in good faith,” said Thomas Rubino, Director, Public Affairs for Horizon BCBSNJ.  “Capital Health clearly indicated this dispute was about money and their desire to tax our members to pay for their building spree and to make up for other lost revenues.  In today’s newspaper, Capital Health’s president said ‘our job is to make as much money as we can, legally’ from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey members.  We believe their job should be providing quality and affordable health care to our members, their patients.”
