Robert A. Marino, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, has over 35 years of experience in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield system. He was appointed to his current position in June 2008 and is responsible for directing and managing all operational activities of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of
New Jersey, including: sales and marketing, service, health care management, information technology and enterprise project management. He is also responsible for ensuring the implementation of overall operational strategy and driving operational excellence throughout the organization.
Mr. Marino serves on the Interplan Programs Committee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association Board. He previously served as Chairman and a member of the Executive Committee of the National Account Service Company (NASCO). Mr. Marino served as a Board member of the United Way of Essex and
West Hudson and as the 1997 and 1998 Annual Campaign Chair. He also served as a Board member of the Essex County Heart Association and as the Annual Walk Chair in 2000. He is currently a member of the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey Executive Committee. In addition, Mr. Marino served as Chairman of the Newark Regional Business Partnership and currently serves as a member of the Board and the Executive Committee.
Previously, Mr. Marino was with Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, where he held the positions of Vice President, National Accounts, and Assistant Vice President, Professional Benefits Administration. He holds a B.A. degree in Economics from Rutgers University.
